NordVPN issues cybersecurity advice for travelers who use public WiFi Networks
NEW YORK, December 8, 2017 (Newswire.com) - The holiday season is a busy travel time, and it’s also the time when travelers should pay special attention to cybercrime.
Wi-Fi in hotels, airports, restaurants and other public spaces is usually unprotected and unsafe, and cybercriminals often lurk in these places, waiting to steal personal information from those who connect to open networks.
Another tactic that cybercriminals use is setting up fake Wi-Fi hotspots and calling them by the name of the real hotel, for example, “Guest WiFi.” When a user connects to such a hotspot, all their personal information can get stolen easily.
However, the legitimate hotel or airport WiFi is also not safe because it’s a public network. A hacker can connect to an open network anytime, and snoop on users’ online activity, steal their passwords and personal information.
